John McInerney

Taught learning disabilities at Crystal lake south high school from 1980 to 1990. Coached cross country and track as well. Coached cross country and track at Eastern Illinois university from 1990 until 2004. Have taught in the Kinesiology and Sport Studies Dept. from 2004 until now. Waited a while to have kids so no plans to retire just yeat. Fortunate to really love what i do so continuing on is not an issue. Don't run as much as i should but my new addiction is racquetball. I teach it and play it and it is helping to allow me to continue with my terrible nutritional habits. (ie. jelly donuts etc.) Continue to coach as a volunteer at Charleston High School and work with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at EIU.

Loved my time at good old MCHS. Running for Hutch and Dan Boland and Walt Scott really blessed me later as I took up teaching and coaching. ironic that it was Gary Collins who advised me to retire from hoops and stick to distance running and then he helped get me hired at Crystal Lake South and eventually became my assistant coach there with the boys and girls cross country teams. It was great fun bossing him around-NOT! We made a pretty good team as he could swear a lot better than i could when the runners got a bit too out of hand. Just saw him and his son Brett at the State X-Country meet a week ago. Always a treat to cross trails with old friends!
